Now that the Mitchell Report is over and done with, let’s get back to some good old baseball greed.
Johan Santana has not been traded yet but he has given a benchmark for signing him…$20 million per for seven years, roughly. His agent has told anyone interested these figures. Yet, the Twins offered him $13.25 for 2008 followed by a four-year $80 million. It seems these small market teams can give the dough just not the years players want. Where will he end up…the Mets or Red Sox.
In other inflated contract news, Alex Rodriguez signed his 10-year, $275 million contract. The deal could potentially become a $305 million contract with incentives. After signing the deal, A-rod took the blame for the contract debacle admitting that he was not given the correct information.
