NFL: Super Bowl set

You can’t get better than cold weather, playoff football.  Watching on television, you feel the bitter cold just watching the clouds of breath as the players anticipate the snap.  The Patriots and the Giants outlasted their opponents to play for the title.

The Giants won their record 10th straight road game and Sunday’s win sends them to the Super Bowl.  Kicker Lawrence Tynes tried and tried and finally the third try was good.  A 47 yard field goal, the longest post-season kick ever at Lambeau Field, puts the NY Giants in the Super Bowl to face the undefeated New England Patriots.

Eli Manning led his team to three straight playoff victories by not making mistakes.  The Giants took advantage of a Corey Webster interception in overtime.  The fourth quarter was a defensive battle with both offenses struggling to make any movement.  The Giants had the best opportunities with the two missed field goals but this game became one of the best football games of the season.

The Giants became the first wild card team in NFC history to make it to the Super Bowl.  The last wild card team to make it was the Pittsburgh Steelers a few years ago…and they won the Super Bowl.

The Patriots beat the Chargers, who despite injuries to key players, put up a good fight in the New England cold.  They are the second team to enter the Super Bowl undefeated (the 72 Dolphins) but, they are arguably the best team in NFL, or sports for that matter, history.  Tom Brady threw three interceptions but, on the legs of Laurence Maroney and his 122 rushing yards, the Pats win 21-12.
