NFL: Farve hangs up #4

After a wild season, Brett Farve had a good time and is leaving the Packers in good shape.  He made one last go of it with a relatively young team and came close, ending with an interception leading to the game-winning field goal against the Giants.  The iron-man will never see an equal.  Here are the numbers:

  • 1 Super Bowl
  • 3 straight MVPs - record
  • 161 career victories – record
  • 5,377 career completions – record
  • 8,758 attempts
  • 61,655 yards – record
  • 442 touchdowns – record
  • 288 interceptions – record
  • 253 consecutive regular-season starts (275 with playoffs) – RECORD

Farve may not have been as physically gifted as a Montana or Marino but he had it…that intangible that made him special.  His record-setting numbers may not be all that pretty, and were helped by his incredible longevity, but Brett Farve was a throwback player, fittingly wearing Packer green and gold.  He wore his heart on his sleeve so much that you knew what was happening on the field.  The angry snap of the helmet strap when things were not going great and the huge smile and leaps in the air with arms raised running down the field when things were great.

There will never be another Brett Farve.

  2. It is a somber day here for all fans of football that a legend such as Brett Favre is retiring. But looking at his accomplishments he has nothing to regret about walking away still being able to compete. You will be missed on the field Brett, but thanks for all the memories!

  3. He is the last of that group that really made the QB position a true field general…along with Elway, Marino, Young and Montana. All that’s left is Peyton Manning and Tom Brady but they are too polished.
