MLB: Yankees win final Opening Day at the Stadium

You couldn’t have asked for a better day.

Joe Girardi got his first as the new skipper for the most storied franchise in sports.  With a sellout crowd of 55,112, Yankee Stadium got one last Opening Day win as the “House that Ruth built” prepares for its last season. 

Chien-Ming Wang got the win as the Yankee ace beat the Toronto Blue Jays and Roy Halladay, 3-2.  Melky Cabrera hit a home run to tie the game in the sixth inning.  The Yanks took the lead the next frame when Hideki Matsui knocked in Alex Rodriguez on a fielder’s choice.

The game ended in usual Yankee fashion as Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect ninth inning for the save.  He followed Joba Chamberlain, who gave up no hits and had two strikeouts in the eighth inning,
