The New York Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 in the opening series rubber match. With the score tied going intot the eighth inning, Bobby Abreu’s single knocked in Melky Cabrera to break an eighth-inning tie.
Phil Hughes started the game, pitching a solid six innings giving up two runs and striking out four. Joba Chamberlain got the win after a scoreless eighth inning and Mariano Rivera closed out his second save of the year.
